Why Organic?
Why are organic foods better for you and your baby?
In the last decade, the organic movement has
grown exponentially and researchers are still working to quantify the
nutritional superiority of organically-farmed foods over traditional
ones. While some studies have found some similar nutritional benefits
between organic and traditional foods, organic foods tend to have
higher levels of healthy antioxidants and polypehenols. Couple that with
the fact that 100% organic foods contain no synthetic ingredients or
pesticides, and you have a superior food for you and, especially,
your baby.
Why is it so important to feed a baby organic? Babies consume a higher
percentage of pesticides than adults due to body size, because babies
often consume more fruits and vegetables than adults, and because their
immature kidneys are not proficient at excreting toxins, so they may
stay in baby's body for longer times. A study published inEnvironmental Health Perspectives
found that children eating conventionally grown fruit had pesticide
residue in their urine, which decreased after just five days on an
organic diet.
Urban Baby Gourmet uses only produce, meats, dairy and grains that are 100% organic to prepare our line of baby food. While we cannot
label ourselves as USDA organic'as we are a start-up business that
cannot currently afford the expensive licensure, you can be assured that
we go to every measure possible to obtain organic food for your baby.
After all, we are feeding our babies, too.
