We all know that homemade baby food is healthier for your baby than jarred food, but preparing it doesn't always fit into your busy day with baby. We've all been there; exhausted, hungry, a million things to do, and we can't seem to find anything on the shelves that the baby will eat except for snacks. If you work, have older kids, or are just having a hectic week, it can be a challenge to find time for shopping, dicing, steaming, pureeing and storing homemade baby food - not to mention cleaning up the mess afterward.

We started Urban Baby Gourmet with this in mind. We want to give parents a variety of original, local and organic choices that are as convenient as jarred food but provide the superior nutrition and taste of homemade food. Whether you are exclusively feeding your baby our food, using ours to complement other food, or just alleviating the stress of a crazy week, we hope our food can help your family spend more time together, without sacrificing the quality of your baby's critical early diet.

What separates us from other baby food you might find in the grocery store is our delicate introduction of herbs and spices, the ethnic and regional influences in our recipes, and the fact that we use fresh, primarily local ingredients. We are the next best thing to organic baby food made in your own home. All of our recipes are tested with care on our own babies and fall into three stages, based on their complexity of ingredients and textures: Silky & Smooth, our beginner meals for babies 6 to 9 months; Thick & Saucy, our transitional meals for babies 8 to 12 months; and Hearty & Chunky, our toddler meals for babies 10 months and older.
